Domestic Violence Against Women in Portugal: A Brief Critical Analysis of Victims’ Protection

This text aims to present a brief critical reflection on the protection provided to women victims of domestic violence in Portugal over the past decades, highlighting some legislative advances and public policy developments. It discusses the importance of framing domestic violence within the context of gender-based violence, following the Istanbul Convention and adopting an intersectional perspective that addresses the specific needs of different victims. It also presents some reflections on the challenges that lie ahead for the future.
